Boise Greenbelt and Bogus Basin of Boise

December 15, 2009 by · Leave a Comment

Boise, Idaho, has a lot to offer to people who want to escape the pressure of a busy city and just enjoy a calm and enjoyable time in a modern place. Among the many that Boise has to offer, the main attractions of the city would have to be the Boise Greenbelt and Bogus Basin.

Boise Greenbelt

Many people go to Boise to enjoy modern nature and the chance for long biking, walking, and jogging with the natural environment. The favored trail for these is the Boise Greenbelt. It follows the Boise River and connects most of Boise’s parks. It passes through the Warm Springs Golf Course, the Municipal Park, MK Nature Center, the Julia Davis Park, Downtown Boise, and the Veterans Memorial State Park on the north side of the Boise River. On the other side, the south bank, Boise Greenbelt begins at Barber Park and passes through ParkCenter Park, Boise State University, Ann Morrison Park and continues near to the Kathryn Albertson Park.

The Boise Greenbelt has mostly been paved and is ideal for bicyclists. But there are still areas that are walking dirt paths, particularly on the southeastern bank of the river. There are also parts of the trail that are strictly for pedestrians only, such as the trail at the Riverside Village residential area. In the ParkCenter Park, too, the cyclists follow a different route from the hikers and joggers.

Because it connects many of the highlighted parks and sceneries in Boise, the Boise Greenbelt has been one of the main attractions of the city. Boise Greenbelt has been supported and improved ever since its conception in the 1960s and is still being supported by the city of Boise until now.

Bogus Basin

Another highlight of Boise is the Bogus Basin Mountain Recreation Area, which is located north-northeast of the city of Boise. Bogus Basin is popular as a ski resort and is frequented by many people during snow season, which would generally be from Thanksgiving weekend until the first weeks of April. In the summer, Bogus Basin also offers activities such as hiking, mountain biking, and has a disc golf course open.

Bogus Basin is operated by the Bogus Basin Recreation Association, and has been molded into a popular ski and snowboarding resort. Water sources are limited so there is not much snow making. Nevertheless, it sis still a great source of exhilarating skiing and snowboarding. Night skiing is also available and there are three terrain parks to choose from (two for beginners and intermediate-level players, one for those advanced). You can also go snow tubing, or sledding.

We could say that the Boise Greenbelt and the Bogus Basin are among Boise’s natural yet modern escapes. Both bring out the beauty and simplicity of Boise while also giving out the what the modern world can offer when combined with nature. Among the wonders that Boise gives us, connecting the city and the environment makes the Boise Greenbelt and the Bogus Basin Boise’s main attractions.
