Renting Tips For Singapore And More

December 29, 2009 by · Leave a Comment

Singapore is known as the “best place to live in Asia.” So if you’re deciding to rent a place in Singapore, you’re making the right choice. Expatriates have continuously placed Singapore at the top of their list when it comes to living there. Singapore is a city-state that is economically outstanding and safe to reside in. Before you start renting, read on through this article for some tips.

There are many types of places to rent in Singapore. Expatriates may rent all the various classes of residential premises, which range from private condominiums to bungalow houses. Keep in mind that rental costs differ in relation to type of premises, locality, furnishing, facilities and size. Accommodation in Singapore is typically rented out on an initial 1 or 2 year lease. Anywhere between 1 to 3 months’ rent is often required as a security deposit. Rental costs could be anywhere between $800 and $30,000.

If you are fine spending around $3,000 a month for rental, you can live in an apartment of around 1,300 to 3,000 sq ft. For a bit over twice the price, you can get a sophisticated apartment that already comes with awesome facilities like a gym, tennis court and swimming pool. For even more space, room and a nice garden to go, a bungalow will cost anywhere between $18,000 and $30,000. Popular residential areas lie in Orchard Road area, around Tanglin Road, Holland Road, Bukit Timah and River Valley. Outside the prime district, a rental would cost half the price you’d pay for a rental in a prime district.

Housing in Singapore is pretty impressive. Because homes are put up by the Housing and Development Board and sold to residents, they are often in much better condition compared to Western public housing. Housing in Singapore are often well sought after because they are generally very affordable and are often have public transport and shops nearby. They have very good locations in that dining places, shops, subway lines and bus stops were situated to specifically benefit these homes. Now before going for an HDB flat, there are some things you might want to know about first. You shouldn’t expect HDB flats to have all the facilities you want, as these are the more affordable rental spaces. However, these flats often do have all the basics you need, such as air-conditioning and laundry space. If you’re on a budget, HDB flats are a good choice.

There are many other types of rentals to choose from. The question is, which one should you go with? There are just a number of things to consider first, and it would be wise to make simple decision criteria for yourself. List down all the possible locations you actually want to live in. Consider schools, office locations, transportation, shopping centers, leisure areas, hospitals, restaurants, airport, and even your friends’ homes. As you can see it all boils down to personal choice. You may want to live near the shopping center or near public transport if you choose not to drive.

Once you’ve figured out exactly what type of location you want, you can then start brainstorming on the type of living space you’d like to reside in. Consider the number of people who are planning to stay in the same space. So in this case, ask yourself if you absolutely need a large 3-bedroom apartment or not, for instance. Also consider what facilities you need and actually don’t need, so that you can save more. When you’ve decided on the type of place you’ll be renting, it’s time to browse and make a list of your top housing estates. It’s always better to visit each and take a look. Don’t hesitate to ask the landlord some questions. Make sure you do your research-for instance, if you’re looking into an HDB flat, your landlord needs approval from HDB. Renting a flat illegally may mean you will not be able to relay your complaint to HDB if something goes wrong with your rental, so it’s better safe than sorry. All you need to do is to obtain a copy of an approval letter when you are visiting and inspecting a unit.

Nevada: More Than Gambling

December 28, 2009 by · Leave a Comment

Part of the appeal of Nevada is its less than perfect reputation. Las Vegas and legalized gambling is what has made Las Vegas and Nevada known worldwide. However, there is much more that visitors can do in Nevada aside from gamble. Some popular cities include Mesquite, Boulder City, Carson City and Laughlin with a number of recreational activities and excellent accommodations. If visitors are looking for a historic vacation then there are many options in North Nevada. In Southern Nevada there is also the option of visiting one of the many ghost towns left over from the early nineteen hundred silver boom. A popular attraction in Southern Nevada is the Cave Lake State Park which has a number of recreational activities such as fishing, camping and hiking.

Las Vegas is a man made attraction that has attracted thousands of people from all across the world. Las Vegas is known for their casinos and bright neon lights. There are several Clark County communities that come together to form Las Vegas including Henderson which has the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. However, you don’t have to like gambling to come to Las Vegas, there are many other options including several natural outdoor recreational activities. One of these options is Lake Mead National Recreation Area which is near Boulder City and the Valley of Fire State Park. And then there is no shortage of clubs along the Las Vegas Strip that you can choose from to keep you busy all night long.

Despite the size of Las Vegas it isn’t the capital of Nevada. Carson City is the capital of Nevada and is located near Reno and Lake Tahoe. Many choose to come to Carson City as a result of its close proximity to outdoor activities including many skiing and snowboarding sites in the winter. Although, like most large cities in Nevada you can still find some casinos if you want to do a little gambling while you are there.

There is no shortage of accommodation in Nevada and many of them are the hippest hotels you will find in the entire United States. Many of these hotels come with excellent service and amenities so the only hard trouble is figuring out which one you want to stay at. However, if you are looking for something a little different than the standard Las Vegas hotels you should consider the Red Rock Casino, Resort and Spa. This hotel isn’t located along the strip, instead most rooms overlook the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation and the architecture and design is built to look like the natural wonder that it overlooks. So this makes it an excellent option for those who want outdoors in their Las Vegas vacation.

Long Beach Island: Get More on the Jersey Shore

December 23, 2009 by · Leave a Comment

Resting peacefully off the coast of New Jersey, Long Beach Island is composed of quaint, quiet, and close-knit communities that offer a diverse selection of attractions to the summertime crowds. Whether you want to relax along some of the best beaches the Jersey Shore has to offer or simply explore the nature wonders of this enticing barrier island, this 18-mile stretch of pure bliss is sure to have you coming back year after year.

Although the towns on the northern tip of Long Beach Island are smaller and less populated compared to their southern counterparts, it is here that you will find the best attraction. At the forty-foot Barnegat Lighthouse, the second tallest lighthouse in the country, a climb up the 217 steps is always worth the effort for the breathtaking, panoramic views of Barnegat Bay, Island Beach, and Long Beach Island. While you are in the Barnegat Lighthouse State Park, be sure to enjoy the fishing for striped bass, summer flounder, and numerous other species or a relaxing hike around the remnants of the last maritime forest on the island.

While a stop by the Barnegat Lighthouse should be at the top of every itinerary, the highly-rated Long Beach Island beaches are the main calling card of the area and simply cannot be missed. Since the Island is only a half-mile wide at the widest point, a visit to a town such as Harvey Cedars, Ship Bottom, and Surf City means you can enjoy either the Atlantic Ocean or the bay without much hassle. Swim, sunbathe, or surf in the ocean for a few hours and when you need a change of pace, a short walk across town will lead you to the fishing, swimming, and sailboarding opportunities of the bay.

For family fun and amusement away from the sandy shore, the Fantasy Island Amusement Park in Beach Haven is an excellent option with its arcade games, rides, games of chance, and live entertainment. The Ferris Wheel is a popular pastime and the nightly entertainment, which can include magicians and live reptile shows, is certainly worth coming back for. At the nearby Thundering Surf Water Park, you can enjoy more water-filled fun on the eight waterslides and the lazy river, or play a round of mini-golf on your favorite of the two available 18-hole courses.

On the southernmost tip of Long Beach Island lies Holgate and part of the Edwin B. Forsythe National Wildlife Refuge, a 40,000 acre refuge that protects New Jersey coastal habitats and tidal wetlands along with designated wilderness areas. The Holgate Division spans two-and-a-half miles and is a protected wilderness area, meaning visitors can only view the amazing plant life and animal communities outside of the endangered piping plovers nesting season. Although it is only open from September to the end of March, the amazing wildlife viewing opportunities along one of only two remaining undeveloped barrier beaches in the state is an unforgettable adventure.

Long Beach Island is a natural wonder that is overflowing with gorgeous beaches and stunningly different communities. Whether you choose the busy town of Beach Haven with its entertainment options and bustling boardwalk or prefer the solitude and serenity of Harvey Cedars, Long Beach Island vacation rentals are conveniently located along this strip of paradise for a waterfront getaway to remember. Your Jersey Shore vacation is meant to be a relaxing affair, centered around the pristine sands and refreshing waters of the ocean and bay, and when you stay in Long Beach Island rentals, you get everything you always wanted and more.

To experience a vacation in a breathtakingly beautiful destination without giving up any of the amenities of home you are accustomed to, look into the many Long Beach Island vacation rentals that offer wireless internet, a washer and dryer, a fully-equipped kitchen, and plenty of space and bedrooms. After you stay in a cozy home away from home, you’ll wonder how you ever considered a cramped and unwelcoming hotel room an ideal lodging option.

More Brits Head to the Slopes For 2008 Winter Skiing

December 23, 2009 by · Leave a Comment

The 2006/2007 ski season saw a nice rise in numbers of Brits taking a ski holiday. Last year’s 3% rise is expected to increase through the 2007/2008 ski season.

Just over 37% of UK skiers choose to ski in France while 19% choose Austria and 13% choose to ski in Italy. France seems to be the favorite ski destination for most Britons. Crystal Holidays already reports a 10% increase in bookings in its resorts.

The 2006/2007 ski season was more challenging than previous years due to poor snowfall at the start of the season. Lower-altitude ski resorts could face the same challenges this year, according to predictions, but early snowfalls in Austria and Andorra have been encouraging.

Inghams, another popular UK ski holiday company, also reports bookings ahead of last year at this time.

Litsa Constantinou, Chief Executive of Inghams, said: “We expect growth in many of the popular destinations and also that the trend for people taking multiple ski holidays will continue.”

High-altitude, snow-sure resorts with Neilson Ski are also selling very well this 2007/2008 ski season. Andy Harmer, head of product and planning at Neilson, said: “Norwegian, Swedish and Finnish resorts are proving attractive, as are the Canadian resorts, which enjoyed fantastic snow last winter.”

Crystal Holidays is the UK’s leading holiday spot for year round travel, especially during ski season. Crystal features a network of 140 resorts in 14 countries worldwide. Gareth Crump, product and marketing director for Crystal Holidays, said: “France benefits from the popularity of the chalet and club hotel product and its high-altitude resorts. Austria lost out (last ski season) because its low-lying resorts suffered from poor snowfall.”

Aside from great ski destinations, Crystal Holidays offers great family holiday getaways. Crystal has stylish hotels and chalets in some of the UK’s most popular resort locations. Many of these locations offer a wide range of holiday escapes in Europe and North America; some of Crystal’s holiday packages include; lakeside locations, mountain villages, beach resorts, walking breaks, city stays, touring and much more. You can truly enjoy your holiday at your own pace with activities like hiking, biking, climbing, rafting and paragliding.

The Principality of Andorra, more commonly known as Andorra, is a highly sought-after ski destination. Nestled in the eastern Pyrenees mountains bordering Spain and France, Andorra usually provides perfect ski conditions throughout the ski season. Crystal Holidays has three resorts in Andorra; Arinsal, Pas de la Casa, and Soldeu.

Andorra’s economy relies primarily on the estimated nine-million tourists who visit each year. Due to the tourist population and immigration, there are many languages spoken in Andorra. The historic and official language of the area is Catalan. Many nationalities have immigrated to Andorra, so you’ll also hear Spanish, French and Portuguese, as well as English.

Andorra is rich in culture and home to folk dances like the contrapas and marratxa. Andorran folk music shares similarities with all of its neighbouring provinces and countries but is essentially Catalan in character.

Skiing has become a very popular seasonal getaway during the last decade; more and more people each year book ski holidays as weekend getaways and week-long holidays. Where ever you plan your 2007/2008 ski holiday, keep these great destinations in mind.

Nevada: More Then Just a Vacation Destination

December 21, 2009 by · Leave a Comment

Mention the name “Nevada” and what comes to mind for most people is the brightly lit strip that runs four miles through the city of Las Vegas. In reality though, there is much more to Nevada than just neon lights and casinos.

Also known as the Silver State, Nevada is the seventh largest state in the United States. Due to most of the state being situated in the Mojave Desert, the majority of the residents of Nevada live a few major centers.

The desert location means that the temperatures range from 13 °F to 104°F depending on the area. Most areas see less of a temperature range, however. Rainfall is very low in Nevada, with averages around seven inches.

The capital of Nevada is Carson City, though many people think that it is Las Vegas, likely due to the fact that Las Vegas contains about 35 times as many residents as the capital. Reno is the other most major city in the state.

Nevada is famous for its legalized gambling resorts and casinos and rightly so. There are over 175 casinos in the state of Nevada. However, there are many other things to do in Nevada as well.

If you’re not exclusively interested in gambling, Nevada also has a myriad of attractions that don’t involve gambling though many of them are in some way attached to casinos.

For those who enjoy the outdoors there are many activities in Nevada that are sure to please. Visitors and residents alike can tour the Hoover Dam, go hiking, rock climbing, white-water rafting, golfing, or visit the many lakes or wildlife refuges in the state. At Lake Tahoe, near the California border, there are many opportunities for skiing, snowboarding, and sledding in the winter; while the lake itself is popular for water sports in the summer.

In addition, there are many art galleries, museums, zoos, theme parks, aquariums, and even mine tours of local gold and opal mines. For the more adventurous, you can even tour the Nevada Test Site where the US military has performed 928 nuclear tests.

Nevada is indeed a unique state to visit; the diversity of its terrain and attractions make it a fascinating tourist destination as well as a great place to live.

Last Minute Ski Vacations are Becoming More Popular

December 20, 2009 by · Leave a Comment

With the rapid climate changes that we are all experiencing, last minute ski vacations are becoming more popular than ever before. It is impossible to know in advance of time whether or not a ski resort will actually have snow when the season starts, so planning a ski vacation way ahead of time makes less sense nowadays. Nonetheless, you can still find ski vacation packages at the last minute. In fact, ski vacations are more affordable than ever before check it yourself in holidayhomes.ca , with global warming scaring many people away from risking taking a ski trip and finding it ruined by unseasonably warm temperatures.

This year, we took a Lake Tahoe ski trip. Although it took a while for the snow to fall, once it did it was beautiful and thick. So few people had planned out ski vacations, that despite the fact that we waited until the last minute, we could still find cheaper rates than we normally could months ahead of time. This isn’t the case with all ski vacations, but it was where we were going. You see, it depends on the altitude of the ski lodge. The higher altitude ski lodges still have plenty of snow, but the low-lying ones have a shorter and shorter season every year. If you are ready to take ski vacations at the last minute, many of these low altitude ski cabins will have great deals for you.

Of course, it you go and it doesn’t snow the whole time, you can still enjoy your ski vacation. I have always thought that getaways are mostly about, well, getting away. Skiing is great on ski vacations, but it is only half the fun. The other half is just sitting there, drinking hot chocolate and sopping in a warm hot tub. Even if the snow is not falling outside – and it won’t always be – you can still enjoy that.

As the planet continues to warm, I think that the outlook of ski vacations will change. Outdoor ski lodges will still do some business when it snows, but I think the future is indoors. Already, indoor ski vacations have taken off in places like Japan and Dubai. People pay a fortune to go to an indoor ski resort in the middle of the city and relax for a couple of hours. Although they do not have the majesty of traditional ski vacations – going up to the top of a mountain from which you can see the whole panorama of the state – they have a modern convenience that is unsurpassed anywhere.
