Breckenridge Colorado Bars and Nightlife – a Visitor’s Guide

December 21, 2009 by · Leave a Comment

If you’re seeking a mountain town with tremendous nightlife for your next ski vacation, consider Breckenridge, Colorado. With over 100 unique restaurants and bars lining its historic Main Street, the town stays alive well after its lifts have closed. From pubs to clubs to old west saloons, you’re sure to find a watering hole (or ten) that suits your taste in Breckenridge.

Start your evening off with a visit to one of the locals’ favorite après ski bars. The Quandary, Park Avenue Pub, Mi Casa and the Breckenridge Brewery are all located within easy walking distance of Peak 9’s base area and offer great happy hour specials. Recount the highlights of your ski day over a cocktail or beer in one of these establishments before heading out on the town for the night.

Visitors looking for a mellow bar where they can watch their favorite team will appreciate Downstairs at Eric’s, Kenosha and Burke and Riley’s Irish Pub. Eric’s and Kenosha feature the best beer menus in town, with more selections than you could possibly sample in an evening. Burke and Riley’s features traditional Irish libations and might be the only bar in town where you can find your favorite soccer team on the big screen. The pub also features one of Breckenridge’s best decks, with phenomenal views of the Ten Mile mountain range and a gas fire pit to keep you warm on cold winter nights.

For live music, look to Sherpa and Yeti’s. This well-hidden basement bar features touring national acts nightly. From rock to reggae to hip hop, Sherpa’s brings in an eclectic mix of music from around the country and beyond. Those who prefer a bit more relaxed atmosphere with live jazz will appreciate the Blue River Bistro, a contemporary martini bar on the north end of Breckenridge’s Main Street.

For a bit more historic place to drink, check out the Gold Pan Saloon. The “Pan” has the distinction of being the oldest continuously bar west of the Mississippi. Originally established to cater to Breckenridge’s mining crowd, the saloon is still a popular nightlife fixture today. The Brown Hotel, originally built in the 1860’s, now operates solely as a bar. This historic Victorian building’s multiple rooms are filled with pool and ping pong tables, foosball, and air hockey games.

Those interested in partying the night away on a dance floor, should consider the Salt Creek, Cecilia’s or the Liquid Lounge. These bars feature Breckenridge’s largest dance floors and cater to a younger crowd. If you’re planning on staying out until the town closes down for the evening, you’ll find these establishments stay packed until 2 am.

No matter where you choose to celebrate in Breckenridge, you’re sure to have a great time. Revelers of all ages will appreciate the town’s vast selection of bars and restaurants, as well as the lively crowds that frequent them – all located centrally amongst the many options for lodging in Breckenridge.

A First Time Visitor’s Guide to Vacationing in Breckenridge Colorado

December 19, 2009 by · Leave a Comment

First time visitors to Breckenridge, Colorado are likely to find that the town is a destination unlike any other. Sitting in a high alpine valley at an elevation of 9,600 feet, Breckenridge’s climate and atmosphere are significantly different than those of lower elevations.  This requires an adjustment on the part of those visiting from lower altitudes. Vacationers can make their first Breckenridge vist a comfortable and enjoyable one by following a few simple steps. Here’s how:

Adjusting to Breckenridge’s altitude takes time. Stay well hydrated and well rested in order to prevent the onset of altitude sickness.  Do not over exert yourself during your first days of your stay. Guests who refrain from consuming alcohol, tobacco and caffeine for the first two to three days of your stay will notice a tremendous difference. Light activity aides visitors in recovering from altitude symptoms faster than bed rest does. Sleep decreases the rate of respiration and an excessive amount of sleep can actually exacerbate the effects of altitude.

Pack appropriately for cold weather skiing and snowboarding. Utilize layers of clothing that can be added or removed throughout the day as on-mountain weather typically shifts throughout the day. Layer in articles of clothing that draw sweat away from the skin to keep you warm and dry, in even the coldest of conditions. Wool, silk and synthetic fibers such as polypropylene and fleece are typically the moste efficient. Cotton absorbs moisture and dries slowly, meaning if you get wet, you’re going to be cold all day.Ski jackets and pants should also be waterproof and breathable.

Thoroughly research and book your accommodations well in advance of your arrival.  While there are virtually limitless options when it comes to Lodging in Breckenridge, the most convenient options typically sell out far in advance.  Consider what amenities are important for you to have on-site or nearby, such as onsite property management, pools, hot tubs, shops, restaurants, etc.

Finally, first time skiers and snowboarders should consider taking a lesson with Breckenridge’s Ski and Ride School. The ski resort has developed programs that are specifically geared towards entry level snow sports participants. A lesson can save you hours (or even days) of frustration trying to pick up a new sport, and will have you linking turns and cruising the mountain in no time.

Properly preparing for your vacation, following a bit of common sense and listening to your body will help make your first Breckenridge, Colorado vacation an enjoyable one. By ensuring that you and your travel partners are well-equipped for your trip, you can all but guarantee yourself the ski vacation of a lifetime.

Timeshares Give Visitors the Option of Privacy

December 12, 2009 by · Leave a Comment

Many people don’t fully understand the concept of timeshares. A timeshare is an opportunity offered to people to purchase time at a home. Timeshares are normally offered at locations where people tend to vacation the most. The cool thing about timeshares is that they are jointly owned by a group of people who typically don’t know each other but share time at the same location. Some of the most popular locations for warmer timeshare rentals are in locations such as Florida, Las Vegas, or Hawaii. If you are more into the wintertime there are also great timeshare opportunities in Colorado, Utah, and Vermont where you can rent cabins that are specifically tailored to you are your family. Most of the cabins in cooler places are normally near mountains where people can go skiing and snowboarding when there is snow. Timeshares do not have to be purchased by one family individually; more often than not they are split between three or four families who all go up to the location at the same time to spend time together. The greatest thing about timeshares is that they allow the opportunity for families to hang out while visiting one of their favorite locations where they can do things that they love.

A question that is asked most often about the rental of timeshares is how often families split time at the particular destination. Normally, the typically time spend at a timeshare is a week to two weeks. Normally, there are also opportunities for renters to rent time at the location at more than one time during the year depending on the demand for the location. One thing to keep in mind when you are looking for investing in a timeshare is demand for time at the location is almost always higher during holidays and school vacation weeks, so a lot of the time it is much less inexpensive to rent during off-peak, and off season hours where families are not looking to bring their children up during school vacation. If you are looking to have ownership during times that are in high demand, the price will obviously be higher. For example if you are looking to get a timeshare in Orlando, Florida during the week after Christmas the prices will clearly be higher than they would be for trying to get the same location for the middle of July. The same goes for cooler locations where most people try to purchase time during the winter months in order to go skiing, so once again prices would be much higher during times of demand which would be when there is snow on the ground.

A great thing about timeshares is that they are normally much bigger and more well furnished than a hotel room, which may just have a bedroom and a bathroom. In many of these beautiful houses there are open kitchens, two-floors, and rooms to have the family relax. They are decorated very nicely and many of them include heat and A/C. Another great benefit of these beautiful homes is they typically include indoor or outdoor pools in warmer destinations, and in cooler destinations there is almost always a hot tub, which tired skiers and snowboarders can relax in after a long day at the slopes.
